Call for the Practitioners
Following the ISCRAM tradition and the conference vision, emergency/crisis management practitioners are invited to present their work in the Practitioner Track at the ISCRAM 2025 conference in Halifax, Canada. Unlike other tracks, which require the presentation of either a completed work (CoRe) or a work-in-progress (WiP), the Practitioner Track offer professionals in emergency and crisis management field a platform to showcase their work and share completed case studies with the wider community. We encourage practitioners to present their experiences, realities, insights, challenges and solutions at ISCRAM through talks, without the need for paper submissions, but rather a short abstract to describe what you wish to present. This initiative aims to facilitate the sharing of pertinent ISCRAM topics and foster stronger collaboration between multi-disciplinary academics and practitioners to forward to the collective knowledge and best practices in the field. However, if your work warrants having a paper in the Proceedings, we encourage you to submit a CoRe paper (Completed Research) or a WiP paper (Work-in-Progress).

The poster and demonstration-sessions will be co-chaired by Lee A.S. Britton & Jack Gallagher. Please see the Call for Practitioners Information box below for additional information. If you have any questions, please address them to our central email address (iscram2025@dal.ca) or to the corresponding Chair, with “Practitioner Track” in the subject line.

TRACK TOPICS
The theme of the ISCRAM 2025 conference is “Managing and Responding to Coastal Disasters and Climate Change”. Coastal communities are particularly vulnerable to various natural pressures associated with the ocean and atmosphere, whether slow-acting, such as erosion or salt-water intrusion, or precipitous, such as hurricanes or storm surges. Innumerable studies and policies focus on community adaptation and improved resilience, but some hazards inevitably overwhelm the social system, requiring emergency response. Some of these natural phenomena are exacerbated by climate change, which can affect the frequency and/or the severity of adverse events. In line with our pracademic approach, we eagerly anticipate insights from practitioners who have been involved in the use of information systems, modelling or technology to address such issues (or other topics related to the ISCRAM mandate).
HOW TO SUBMIT
Your presentation should be a talk lasting approximately 10-15 minutes. To be considered, please submit an abstract of your talk using the supplied template (see Call for Practitioners Talk Template box below). The abstract, of 150-400 words, should outline the main theme of your presentation and its connection to the ISCRAM’ scope, and possibly to the 2025 Conference theme. Additionally, include details about your practitioner organization, your role there, and your relationship to the topic being discussed. Upon submission, the track chairs and selected pracademic experts with expertise in your topic’s domain will review your contribution.

Participants in the practitioner track must register for the main conference. All submissions will be made electronically using the ISCRAM paper template. Please send your abstract as a PDF document to iscram2025@dal.ca by February 16, 2025 (with Subject Line: “Practitioner submission”). The review results will be communicated by March 3, 2025. In case of further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via email.
